For so long one of Team Sky’s first lieutenants at the Grand Tours, Geraint Thomas took a significant step towards earning the right to leadership status at the Tour de France with a string of hugely impressive performances at the Critérium du Dauphiné. Indeed, based on his resounding victory in France’s major dress rehearsal for July’s headlining event, he should justifiably be considered to be among the contenders for the Tour crown.
