The holder of the world record for speed on a bicycle, Frenchman José Meiffret, is paced on a demonstration lap around Silverstone as part of a parade of motor-racing champions.

Meiffret, an orphan who spent much of his life in poverty, had set several road speed records in the years leading up to this ride, including getting up to 109mph behind a Talbot car in 1951.
