Former WorldTour rider and UK time trialing newcomer James Shaw headed a Ribble-Weldtite top four at an undulating Leicestershire Road Club time trial on Sunday.
The Continental-level team had decamped to Leicester for a team camp on Friday. The whole squad then entered the time trial over 27.2 miles on quiet roads, with only road bikes allowed.
Shaw, taking part in his first-ever open time trial, took victory in a time of 59 minutes and 45 seconds, the best of seven Ribble-Weldtite riders across the top 10.
Last year’s 10-mile national champion Dan Bigham was 15 seconds behind his teammate while Matt Gibson was a further five seconds back in third.
Shaw said: “I knew how fast I could ride but didn’t know what was going to happen with other riders like Bigham.”
