Accountant James Wallace seeks guidance in preparing for his race debut.

Newly qualified accountant James Wallace, 27, has been cycling since his late teens. Having stepped away from structured training during his early 20s, he got back into it three years ago and joined his local club Swindon Wheelers.
Club-mates have suggested giving racing a try; he’s keen but also concerned that he lacks the top-end fitness needed to deal with surges and fast starts. Help is at hand in the form of coach Dan Fleeman.
So, what seems to be the problem?
