Porte Ditches Racing For Training In Tour Prep

Richie Porte has outlined a plan to train more and race less in the lead-up to the Tour de France as he commenced the 2019 season with new team Trek-Segafredo in Australia.

At the Tour Down Under, Porte claimed his sixth consecutive stage victory on Willunga Hill to propel himself to second overall behind winner Daryl Impey (Mitchelton-Scott).

“It would have been nice to have won the GC here but it’s not a race really that’s suited to me, and now I realise that,” he said. “It’s maybe taken a change in teams to realise that — unless there is another hilltop finish.”
