Tour of the Reservoir organiser passes away at 81
Obituary Mike Hodgson 1939-2020

Mike Hodgson was the organiser of the Tour of the Reservoir for over a decade and a stalwart of the North East cycling scene.

Hodgson, who was born in County Durham, spent his entire life in the area. He fell in love with cycling at an early age and rode with several different clubs in the region but mostly, and most recently, with the Tyne Valley Cycle Club.

Despite health issues in later life he remained a keen rider.

Hodgson was best known for organising the Tour of the Reservoir, which he nurtured to take a spot on the Premier Calendar in 2005; it has been there ever since.

The hilly race’s list of winners is a roll-call of Britain’s finest domestic riders in the last 15 years and includes Dean Downing (who won the 2005 edition), Ian Bibby, Tom Stewart and Erick Rowsell.
