Murray sets 24-hour record

Riders battle oppressive heat during ultra-distance race of truth

Despite sweltering temperatures throughout the National 24-Hour Championship Christina Murray (Army Cycling) beat her own national competition record to take the women’s title, while Robbie Mitchell was crowned men’s champion.

Starting in temperatures of 26 degrees on Saturday and rising to 28 the following day, a war of attrition and hydration took place on the roads around Shropshire and Cheshire.

Defending women’s champion Murray had to break her own competition record to take victory, covering 490.41 miles which was just six miles more than Steph Mottram (Cliff Pratt Racing).
