10 Champ Bigham Eyes Wiggins's Hour Record

Recently crowned national 10-mile time trial champion Dan Bigham hopes to take aim at Bradley Wiggins’s British Hour record later this year.

Meanwhile, women’s champion Emily Meakin has her sights firmly set on defending her 25-mile national title in the coming weeks.

Bigham, who is also a noted aerodynamicist who works with teams including Canyon-SRAM and the Danish track squad, said that he believes he can better Wiggins’s Hour record mark, still the British record, on the track, that stands at 54.52km.

Belgian Victor Campenaerts holds the world record for the Hour at 55.08km.

“I want the British record, which is still the world’s best time at sea level,” said Bigham. “I don’t think I can beat Campenaerts’sworld record at sea level when he has altitude, at least not based on the numbers and things right now and drag and everything else, but Wiggins’s record is possible.”

Bigham and his Huub-Wattbike squad had plans to go to altitude in Bolivia to mount an assault on several world records, including the Hour, earlier in the year, but it had to be called off due to the pandemic.
