A leading hair expert has revealed how common hair and scalp problems suffered by women can be linked to health issues such as dehydration and a hormonal imbalance. Trichologist Simone Lee said hair loss can be triggered by sudden hormonal changes, while an irritated scalp is a sign of prolonged dehydration and a poor diet.

Lee revealed that the strength and vitality of hair is directly linked to overall health, and the secret to growing a lustrous mane comes down to diet.

AN IRRITATED SCALP

Irritated scalp develops when the skin is deprived of moisture over a prolonged period of time. Lee said a variety of factors contribute to dehydration of the scalp, including excessive exposure to cold air or air conditioning, repeated use of heated styling tools, low intake of water and poor nutrition.
