DEBUTANTS Nico Jones and Tyreace Palmer both saw red on a crazy afternoon when Havant & Waterlooville gave Notts County an almighty scare before bowing out of the Trophy on penalties.

The Hawks recovered from Matty Wolfe’s opener to lead in the second half through Bedsente Gomis after Tommy Wright had equalised, but then centre-back Jones was sent off and Jimmy Knowles equalised from the penalty spot, before Palmer was shown a second yellow card.

Luke Pilling saved twice in the shootout to help send Notts into the quarter-finals.

“I think that’s eight out of eight shootouts I’ve lost now,” said Havant boss Paul Doswell. “The disappointment’s there, but I’m very proud of the team.

“Our good players showed up today, that’s not been the case for some of the season.”
