Johnson’s high-fliers stun Shaymen to close right in on the leading pack

Gulls Eying The Summit

TORQUAY United stunned hosts FC Halifax Town with a ruthless display of clinical finising as they moved to within two points of the top of the table in a congested title race.

Two goals from top scorer Jamie Reid, sandwiching strikes from Kyle Cameron and Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala, sealed a third successive win for Gary Johnson’s men and prevented a shell-shocked FC Halifax Town from going back to the summit.

“That was a fantastic win for us and make no mistake,” Johnson said. “Halifax are at the top of the league because they are a good side and we have had to be at our best to win here.”

Johnson was especially pleased for striker Reid. “He’s had to play on one leg for much of the game after taking a kick early on. What’s pleasing is he has started to add assists to his game as well as his goals, and he looks even more formidable for it.”

As for opposite number Pete Wild, it’s now just one win from six – no wonder the Shayman chief is beginning to show frustration.
