Sony’s latest PSVR 2 device is here!
Next-Gen Virtual Reality

A few years ago there was a boom in virtual reality, from the Oculus Rift to Google Cardboard to the HTC Vive. It seemed that the future was Virtual Reality. And then it went quiet. The technology wasn’t quite up to scratch with complicated setups, nausea-inducing movements, and low res quality screens as well as a very high price point that kept VR out of the homes of the majority of consumers. Many felt the days of VR were over, yet in 2022 it looks like VR is making a strong comeback thanks to Sony’s updated PSVR 2.

At CES 2022, Sony announced its next-gen Virtual Reality set, simply named the PlayStation VR 2, a headset specifically designed for the PS5. Sony stated that PSVR 2 will take VR gaming to “a whole new level” and that the headsets drastically improved specifications will allow “a greater sense of presence” which will allow players “to escape into game worlds like never before”. Using the headset’s new technology and the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Sony believes it will be able to offer “a heightened range of sensations unlike any other”, which sounds promising, to say the least. Of course, this sounds like marketing jargon, the real test will be once it’s in the hands of gamers, but looking at the technology that is going into the new VR headset, one cannot help but get excited for what Sony has planned.
