The four big networks in the UK are rolling out 5G in select cities across 2019 and 2020 – so if you’re in a covered area and you have a 5G phone in your pocket, you can take advantage of super-fast download speeds (films downloading in seconds rather than minutes) and all that extra bandwidth (signal loss in busy areas should become a thing of the past).

It might be a while before 5G reaches your neck of the woods, but you can get ready (and pick up 5G where it is already available) by investing in one of the 5G phones that is on the market right now. As with a lot of emerging technology, there is a price premium attached to 5G at the moment, but you might not have to spend as much as you think if you shop around – and prices are going to drop steadily as time goes on.
