Nothing like that is needed now as the camera or DSLR that one would use is smart enough to manage all the aspects of the photograph apart from the settings, considering the camera is being used in manual. Night photography is fun specially when you see the images which are the result of shooting in the night or as we would say shooting in the dark without any light or very less light. As there is a shortage of light, just lifting the camera pointing at the scene and pressing the shutter button will not be enough. You have to set your shot in a way that you get the maximum level of image quality from the camera. In case of a DSLR camera, you will have the control over the various aspects of exposure viz. Aperture, ISO and shutter speed. But merely setting the values to get a balanced exposure indicated by the camera might not give you crisp results always. So you have to take some time to setup the shot correctly and see the difference in the image quality. Yes night photos can have a lot of noise and grains, lens flares and shake and blur, but once you get hold of technique, you can expect good quality images every time you shoot.
