When Walls Talk

‘It is tough to get a terrace apartment in Mumbai; therefore it became my dream home,’ says the young owner of this 3,000 sq ft home. Services of interior designer Ali Baldiwala of Baldiwala Associates were requisitioned, who fashioned a rock-solid interior shell with marble. The unique, angular shape of the living-cum-dining, along with the tremendous ceiling height embraced the marble usage. Plus, the many lines and angles of the house also sparked off a design, based predominantly on an overt as well as subtle use of two bold patterns: chevron and herringbone. The entrance hallway sports a panel of chevron inlay with black marquina and white statuario marble, before the statuario stretches towards the rest of the home. The lady of the house affirmed, ‘The statuario has been installed on my insistence and Ali Baldiwala based the home design on it.’
