Castlerock is the perfect staycation destination, with everything on its doorstep, making it a great choice for families.
Things to see and do
Castlerock may be small, but it offers lots of things to see and do. One of its biggest draws is the beautiful beach that stretches 1km from the sea cliffs at Downhill to the lower River Bann estuary. It backs on to rolling sand dunes and looks over the Atlantic ocean, and offers soft, luscious white sand, perfect for family days out, building sand castles and enjoying the Irish sunshine over the summer months. It is also a great spot for those that surf, and in the summer months you will see keen surfers catching waves at all times of the day. The sand dunes back on to Castlerock Golf course, which attracts avid golfers from all over the country. Castlerock Golf Club is described as Ireland’s hidden gem for links golf on the north coast, and the idyllic location will surely satisfy any keen golfer who happens to be in the area. It is strictly golf attire on the course, and to visit the golf club it is either golf attire or casual dress – no denim allowed.
Castlerock is very popular amongst those that like to caravan or camp. There are two fantastic caravan sites in the seaside town; one is located beside the train station and the other is up toward the cliffs, both offering camping facilities, static options and mobile caravan slots.
