When I do a non-surgical nose treatment, I always remind the patient that by altering the appearance of the nose, you alter the entire face. A good case in point is that of actress Jennifer Grey, star of the iconic film Dirty Dancing. Grey famously had a face-changing nose job in the 90s, which apparently even had her closest friends failing to recognise her.
It just goes to show that the nose is such an important part of your face that the smallest change can be noticeable.
In some instances, people won’t necessarily know it’s the nose that has changed but will, perhaps subconsciously, notice that something is ‘different’. Similar to that of a haircut. We all want that ‘different’ to be ‘better’ than before – which is entirely possible if the natural ratios of a given face are respected.
Yet at the same token, if the nose happens to be oversized, or out of kilter with the rest of one’s face, another’s attention will instead centre on one’s proboscis. Such a distraction is hardly favourable to their estimation of one’s appearance1.
