Two Hammered Gold Coins In One Day!
Treasure Hunting magazine
|June 2018
In this hobby, you have both good days and bad days. On a recent dig with the Leicester Metal Detecting Society (LMDS) one of those good days came calling.

It was a cloudy but somewhat cool day and we had a few potentially good fields to detect on, together with a few that weren’t looking so good. One of these latter fields was covered in long grass and was considered by most as best avoided – but sometimes going ‘outside the box’ pays off, as we were to find out.
There were quite a few finds coming up right from the start. A gold posy ring, a few hammered coins, lead weights, lead artefacts and buckles. However, I was mostly finding junk and buttons. Suddenly we heard that someone using an XP Deus had found a gold hammered coin. I went over to look and found a very happy looking Martin. The smile through his beard said it all.

Lost and Found?
There have been several instances over my long detecting career where, not only has it has been a delight to be able to help people who have lost things, but also a great thrill when such losses are returned to their owners. I have several memories of such occurrences.
