Three days before our scheduled annual TCFF Sterkfontein Experience, we pulled up next to our accommodation at Qwantani Resort, excited at the prospect of some fishing preceding the event. We were early for two reasons: one, our International Field Editor at Large, Hans van Klinken and his wife Ina, had come all the way from the Netherlands to experience Sterkfontein first-hand and we were eager to show them some fishing before the crowds arrived, and two, we had to scope out the dam to identify fish populations and their movements for the upcoming event. I had put together a team of guides consisting of myself, Turner Wilkinson and Carl Freese as the advance party, and we were cautiously optimistic, with the forecast predicting little to no rain leading up to the event.
