Dreaming Of Feeder Double
Angler's Mail|September 24, 2019
This week’s Mail match columnist, Darren Cox, has been juggling his work commitments at tackle firm Garbolino with dreams of achieving a second Feeder Masters Final triumph.
Dreaming Of Feeder Double

IT’S fair to say that the Feeder Masters competition has become my biggest match fishing focus since the contest’s launch in 2016.

My victory in the 2017 Final, at Kent’s Bough Beech Reservoir, was an unforgettable occasion, and it’s one that I’d dearly love to repeat.

Becoming the first angler with his name engraved on the trophy twice would be a dream outcome, and another £12,000 champion’s cheque wouldn’t go amiss.

By the time you read this column, the 2019 Feeder Masters Final will be done and dusted. I’ll have either succeeded or failed to live that dream.

Realistically, the odds of victory are stacked evenly in a two-day Final packed with 60 talented feeder anglers. But someone’s got to win it, and if it’s not me, it won’t be for a lack of trying.

Power surge at Tamar

After three great years at Bough Beech, this year there was a change of venue for the Feeder Masters Final, to Upper Tamar Lake, on the Devon/ Cornwall border.

Like most supporters of this event, I embraced the change. It’s important to keep things fresh.

I soon realized that Upper Tamar is a superb water, after winning my zone in a qualifying heat there, to secure my place in the Feeder Masters Final.

Making Short Work Of Specimen Chub

It takes angling guide Kenny Parsons a few hours to drive from his home, near Bath, to his favourite Wessex rivers, but it doesn’t seem to bother him, as he just loves to catch big chub on feeder and fl oat tactics, his personal best standing at 7 lb 12 oz. One of his favourite methods for this cunning species is a maggot feeder with a short hook link.
