Dodging That Deadline

The deadline for my next book is just a few weeks away, and my attention has never been more focused. I’ve been hunched in the same position for hours, ignoring the phone, the kids, the dogs; my fingers working feverishly… and I’m delighted to say that I’m finally making progress on the ice that’s accumulated on the inside of the old freezer we keep in the garage.

Defrosting the freezer has been on my to-do list for a long time, along with cleaning the bathroom grouting, pulling the hair out of the shower drain, and re-varnishing the garden bench; tedious jobs I can happily ignore for months on end, on the basis that I’m far too busy. Until, that is, I have a book to write.
