Whether it’s the struggle to match up to and eventually beat the opposition or the motivation provided by a nemesis breathing down their neck that has inspired so many organizations and individuals to higher plains of achievement and excellence. So, what are Apple and Mac fans to make about the resurgence of their biggest rival in recent times? The PC market recently grew for the first time in six years.

Bucking the trend of six years of decline is certainly news and confounded speculation that the market was due to continue contracting into a seventh straight year, the market as a whole was down 0.2% on the year but had stabilized as the decline the previous year was 1.5%.

The same report says that “It’s good news for the PC market generally; in 2015, it made its steepest drop in history, falling 10.6% in the fourth quarter of 2015 and 8.3% overall. It looks like the market is finally evening out.”

True, Apple’s own figures have also grown, most recently by 3% in the second quarter of 2018 compared to 2017 and have also increased market share from 7% to 7.1% in the previous 12 months. Apple’s Mac Shipments Increase in Q2 2018.
