WITH THE BIGGEST OPENING WEEKEND EVER FOR A NETFLIX COMEDY JEN MARKED HER RETURN TO SERIES TELEVISION BY CRASHING INSTAGRAM. NOW, THE BELOVED FRIENDS ICON CAN’T WAIT FOR WHAT’S NEXT, REVEALING: ‘I’M READY TO SEE WHAT 2020 BRINGS ME’

Jennifer Aniston

There’s a reason Jennifer Aniston ‘broke’ Instagram when she joined the social media platform in October. From her iconic role as Rachel Green on Friends (a show so revered that 25 years after its debut, it is currently the centre of feverish rumours of a cast reunion) to her portrayal of a cherished TV host caught up in the #MeToo movement in the new Apple TV+ series Morning Wars, Aniston, who turned 50 in February, is still proving there isn’t much she can’t conquer. Now with 21 million (and counting) followers, the actress and producer, who remains ‘open’ to love after her marriage to Justin Theroux ended in 2018, insists this past year has taught her “how much I’m capable of”, she says. “The words ‘I dare you’ or ‘No’ always make me kind of go, ‘Oh, OK. Well, let’s just see.’”

How does it feel being back on series television?

I feel just thrilled because the reaction to it is so incredible. Doing it, I mean, we were really flying by the seat of our pants. Apple itself was building a streaming service, so everyone was like, “We’re all in this together, and this is exhilarating and terrifying.” But at the same time it was unbelievably rewarding. Just to be that involved. To really take on a subject that could be touchy and obviously taboo – and also necessary during this time that we’re in. I feel like I’ve got windburn, let’s just say that.

You and co-star Reese Witherspoon are close friends. What was it like working together again?

Well, I mean, when we first [played siblings on] Friends, we were both babies. We’re a bit more grown up. It sort of just fell into place because she’s so damn good, and there was sort of an unspoken language. We were really a good yin-yang to each other.
