Britney Spears – Why It Really Ended

The singer speaks out following her split with hubby Sam

Many believed Britney Spears had found her happily ever after when she wed long-time beau Sam Asghari in a small but celebrity-filled ceremony in June last year. But 14 months later, the singer’s fairytale ending is anything but, with the actor, 29, filing for divorce on August 16 amid claims of cheating and domestic violence.

Whispers of a split had surfaced that same day, with TMZ first reporting that Asghari had moved out of their shared home after a “nuclear argument” over rumours Spears had been unfaithful to him. “It’s only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce,” the insider told TMZ at the time.

Sure enough, just hours later Asghari had officially filed the paperwork citing “irreconcilable differences” and listing July 28, 2023 as the date of separation. “After six years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” Asghari shared the following day on his Instagram story. “We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S--t happens.”

While Spears looked downcast in her first public sighting since the split, she later took to Instagram to share she'd hit up a friend's place afterwards to lift her spirits. "I invited my fav boys over and PLAYED ALL NIGHT!!!" she captioned a video.
