Following a shocking season 4, Showtime’s The Affair picks up where it left off for its final 11 episodes. Ben (Ramon Rodriguez) has murdered Alison (Ruth Wilson) and staged it as a suicide. (Wilson, below right with Rodriguez, won’t return for season 5; nor will Joshua Jackson or Catalina Sandino Moreno, below left.) Vik (Omar Metwally) cheated on Helen (Maura Tierney) with Sierra (Emily Browning), who ended up pregnant, and he nearly succumbed to cancer — which leaves us wondering about Helen: Will she get closer with her ex-husband, Noah (Dominic West)? And how will the show address so many character exits? Tierney, 54, takes Us inside the end of The Affair.

Q: Where does Helen’s story pick up?

Helen is, as usual, very sad. When we come back, Vik is dying. Her whole world is consumed by Vik dying and Sierra giving birth. So she’s running in between life and death.
