This was according to volunteer representatives of Frack Free South Africa (FFSA), which were opposing exploration for, and extraction of, the country’s natural gas reserves.
FFSA co-founder and CEO of the African Conservation Trust, Francois du Toit, was critical of the Petroleum Agency of South Africa’s (PASA) response to questions from Farmer’s Weekly on the implications for mining companies, following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent statement that the time taken to process exploration and possible extraction application licenses would be halved.
This announcement was made as part of Ramaphosa’s economic reconstruction and recovery plan for the country.
