Founded in 1924, Hindustan Times was transformed into a bright, young paper aimed at the next generation by Shobhana Bhartia.
Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament championing a number of social causes during her stint at the Upper House of Parliament. In the late 1980s, it was Bhartia’s vision that transformed the Hindustan Times into a bright, young paper aimed at the next generation. In 2016, she was conferred the Officier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur (Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour) of France for demonstrating an exemplary engagement with social causes, including the introduction of The Child Marriage (Abolition) and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill, 2006, in Parliament. Created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, the Legion d’Honneur (the Legion of Honour) is the highest civilian award given by the French Republic for outstanding service to France, regardless of the nationality of the recipients.
