M-TYPE IS 90 YEARS YOUNG

Had MG not launched the M-Type Midget in 1928 and instead concentrated solely on larger cars, it is almost certain that the marque would have failed in the Depression years and would now be just another forgotten manufacturer. Instead, taking the Morris Minor as the basis and turning it into a minimalist and undeniably rapid two-seater sports car now seems incredibly farsighted. By the standards of the day its price of £175 – although some £50 more than the Morris Minor on which it was based – put it within the reach of keen motorists, and orders poured in after its launch at the 1928 Motor Show at Olympia.
