Through Simon Loos and Peter Appel Transport, Albert Heijn supermarket chain has begun operating three fully electric DAF CF trucks and two CF plug-in hybrid trucks.

Electrifying Operations

Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn turned to DAF through its two carriers Simon Loos and Peter Appel Transport to do its bit to protect the environment. Albert Heijn has pressed into service three fully electric trucks and two plug-in hybrid trucks. The later two mark a first in Europe. Signing the ‘Green Deal’ for Zero Emission City Logistics’ initiative that brings together shippers, carriers, technicians and authorities to jointly conduct research into how to achieve maximum progress towards zero-emission deliveries in urban areas by 2025, Albert Heijn, with over 1,000 supermarkets in Holland, Belgium and Germany, will operate three battery-powered electric trucks (DAF CF Electric) and two plug-in-hybrid trucks (DAF CF Hybrid) through Simon Loos and Peter Appel Transport to gather an insight into how the transition to zero-emission deliveries could take shape. The CF Electric has a fully electric range of some 100 km, and draws from the conventional CF, which through engine innovations, new drivelines and aerodynamic optimisations results in up to seven-per cent lower fuel consumption.
