When we start a new design, we always first appreciate the site and surrounds, before applying our ‘imprint’ in the most sensitive way possible. Since no two sites are the same, this approach must constantly be recalibrated to arrive at a solution that best addresses the issues.
For example, a house we designed along Siglap Plain sits at a corner junction of a busy main road. Our solution was to use a dynamic form and interesting materials. The unique combination of raw, off-form concrete (representing the harsh environment) and intricate teak latticework from Bali veils and protects the house from its harsh urban environment without compromising on views, natural light and ventilation. Solid boundary walls and landscaping mitigate the traffic noise from the main road, while providing an intriguing visual delight to bus drivers, passengers and many passers-by.
