Architect and Interiors India, along with Jaquar and powered by ICA, presented the prestigious iGen 2023 Design Forum showcasing India’s Top 50 Under 40 Architects and Designers. This star-studded event took place in Bengaluru on June 24, 2023, and brought together the country’s most dynamic, innovative, and promising young talents who are shaping the future of architecture.
The forum commenced with a jaw-dropping keynote by Architect Channa Daswatte, Partner at MICD Associates, Sri Lanka, who spoke on “Architecture for the Architects.” Channa Daswatte is a world-renowned design critic, celebrated architect, and author of several books. His extensive experience and expertise make him a design legend par excellence.
Architect Channa began the talk by acknowledging the density of our future. He reminisced about his time in Bengaluru 30 years ago spent at the Chikkajala fort which stands unrecognisable today. He advocated that as architects, it was imperative we built reusable structures that could stand the test of time and function of space.
Channa quoted, “In the end, architecture is really about using spaces for various usages and organising society. We forget that because we are so engrossed with the envelope.” He predicted the architecture of our future as amorphous gatherings of structure, environment, and vegetation and allowing the earth to live and of course, create architecture after the architects have left.
Following that, we had three captivating panel discussions, featuring distinguished designers and thought-provoking topics that challenged the evolving landscape of design and the role of designers within these contexts.
Another key highlight of the day was the special address by Architect Sanjay Puri on Key to the Future of Design. Read on to know more about the events of the day…
