Delight and disappointment as the FEI reconsiders and gives the nod to dressage and showjumping championships

2021 Europeans will run for two disciplines

BRITISH equestrian bodies have welcomed the news that showjumping and dressage European Championships will run next year – although eventing and para dressage miss out.

H&H reported that the European Equestrian Federation (EEF) had been pushing for the showjumping championships; the FEI had cancelled the 2021 Europeans in all Olympic and Paralympic disciplines owing to a clash with the rescheduled Tokyo Games (news, 2 and 30 July).

The FEI reconsidered, and after a board meeting last week, it committed to allocate the jumping and dressage to German venues. The showjumping will run at Riesenbeck from 30 August to 4 September, and the dressage at Hagen, from 7 to 12 September. Both are awaiting final confirmation from organisers.

British Showjumping (BS) CEO Iain Graham told H&H that BS, British Dressage and the World Class programme were “very supportive” of having the Europeans as well as the Olympics and Paralympics.
