For long-term sustainability, a farmer has to provide carrots of consistently high quality so that customers can buy their produce with confidence.

Marketing Your Carrots

This may entail two-tier marketing: a ‘standard’ product and a premium product. Appropriately labelled, the latter will satisfy the requirements of discerning customers and command a higher price.

With mechanisation these days, bunched carrots are scarcer on the market. This creates an opportunity for small-scale growers without expensive machinery to satisfy customers who prefer carrots presented in this way. These customers rightly believe that the fresh green tops on the carrot bunches are a good indication of freshness and health.

All you need is a simple implement: two drop arms to which a grader blade has been attached at the correct angle. You can use this to reach under the carrots, loosening them for easy lifting.
