In “A close shave with death” (p 60), Namibian-based PH Steve Tors shares the story of a leopard hunt that almost ended in tragedy. However, it is not just claws, fangs and horns that pose a danger in the hunting field but also the smaller critters. Cleve Cheney explains in “A sting in the tail” (p 44) that a sting from a venomous scorpion may not only be extremely painful but also fatal. He gives valuable advice on how to avoid them and what to do if you are stung. On the auction front, Dr Flippie Cloete reports that activity in the live game-trade segment continues to be robust, with prices remaining at higher levels thanks to the strong demand from the hunting industry (p 74). Brandon van Zyl explains the importance of introducing new genetics on your game farm to ensure top-quality animals for the auction pens and the hunting field (p 76).
