This month there seems to be a focus on sharks. Do sharks eat kayak fishermen? Manie Combrinck looks at this phenomenon and shares his personal experiences of encountering sharks while kayaking on the ocean. We also feature a contribution by Stellenbosch University about a genetic study that sheds more light on better protection of sharks.

In the article “Isimangaliso Wetland Park” Manie Combrinck sorts through the rumours, legal jargon and maps to find the truth behind the draft regulations for the management of iSimangaliso Marine Protected Area. And in the last article in the series “Similar but not the same” Christopher Caine explains how to differentiate between spotted ragged-tooth sharks and spotted sevengill sharks.
Moving inland, trout season is upon us and seasoned fly fisherman Rohan Koegelenberg explains that you have to know your quarry and his favourite food source to achieve success. We also cater for rock and surf anglers in Nickie Louwrence’s article, which contains useful information about structure, favourite species, hook placement and other aspects.
We bring you a brand-new series called “Tackle Up” in which highly acclaimed angler Andries Maree recommends tackle for a specific area. He will be joined by specialist anglers who will assist him in this task. The launch article focuses on pitching for bass at the Vaal River.

All this and even more in the angler’s friend – Stywe Lyne / Tight Lines.
