Is it possible that the drab winter has finally come to an end and that spring is around the corner? Of course we anglers cannot wait to get a line in the water!
Spring is especially a good time for artlure angling. The fish are preparing to breed and as a result no intruders, including artlure, are tolerated.
Big carp are a nice target for artlure anglers and the world’s greatest omnivorous chancers! According to Emile van Druten, a Protea artlure angler, the carp is a very “old” fish. Cyprinus carpio had already spread through Europe between the 13th and 16th centuries, proving over hundreds of years that it can adapt to varying conditions. It is even alleged that monks travelling between countries in the old Europe took carp with them, which they released into dams and streams to serve as food on their journeys. Today carp are found in more than 59 countries. Emile tells us more about these “masters of survival” and how to catch them.
Also try your luck with yellowfish in September, when these fish come out of hibernation. Rohan Koegelenberg explains to fly fishermen how to land this beautiful fish. After all, it is spring, glorious spring, a time that always brings new insight and inspiration...
