With summer in full swing, we decided to dedicate this 80th edition of Essential Algarve to the ocean and enjoying it to
the full this summer here in the Algarve. From sailing and motor cruising to big game fishing and more, we\'ve got it
covered. The open ocean may be where most of the action is, but here in the Algarve we are blessed with a rare natural
treasure known as the Ria Formosa, a natural tidal lagoon covering over 170 square kilometres gazetted as a natural park.
The Essential team headed out to one of the many protected beaches of the Ria and joined the specialised local tour
company Passeios Ria Formosa to discover some of the secrets both above and below the water. Still in the ocean, but
over on the other side of the world, we take a look at the über-exclusive island resort of Laucala in the Fiji archipelago.
Back on the ground here in the Algarve, our foodie feature for this issue focuses on the Big Green Egg, an innovative
cooking device created for domestic use that now takes pride of place in the kitchens of top chefs.
