The Padma awards announced on Republic Day are the highest awards given by the Indian Government to civilians (those not working for the military). This year, although the list of awardees included politicians as usual, it also had some very special heroes - a 105 year old granny from Coimbatore who is an active farmer, a soil scientist who is changing the way we grow food and an inventor who literally lit up our lives. Meet them all in our cover story. Wildlife has been counted on foot, on horseback, from jeeps and even from a plane. But for the first time ever, space technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are being used to do a wildlife count from space. A farmers protest and parade on Republic Day turned into a riot. Child Friendly News or CFN has been in the business of publishing ‘News that makes sense to kids’ since 2011.
