This is my favourite time of the year! From August to December, the festivals keep on coming, one after another---Ganesh Utsav, Navratri (or Durga Puja), Eid, Diwali, Bhaidooj, Children’s Day, Christmas and finally the New Year! As a kid, I revelled in the delicious food, sparkling fireworks and fun-filled freedom that came along with the festive season. Even as an adult, I find it difficult to ignore the cheer in the air! People are kinder, funner and sometimes better behaved (if they aren’t bursting horrid bombs and crackers on the road and being a general nuisance, that is). In fact, this festive season is one of the reasons why I love our country. Imagine having only two or three festivals in a year instead of the 10 or 15 major ones that we celebrate. How boring that would be!Last year, just before Diwali, I joined Tinkle Digest as an Assistant Editor. I was thrilled to be working for a magazine that was such a large part of my growing-up years. Besides, I knew it was something that I would love to do. It was the best Diwali gift I had ever received and now it seems like I am getting an even better gift this Diwali---a chance to spread my joy and happiness with you through this editorial! I never imagined it would be like this and yet here I am, living my dream! So this festive season, I would like to give you all a message of inspiration. Never stop believing in your dreams---they might actually come true. Believe that you will reach the stars and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Whether you want to be the best scientist in the world, or find yourself on top of the Eiffel Tower, or write a book on your adventures, or even win your neighbourhood football or cricket match, just go for it! And then it’ll be your turn to tell the naysayers, “I told you so!” In this festive issue, our Tinkle stars shine like the brightest diyas! Kalia, Suppandi and the Defective Detectives vie for your attention! Mos Queeto returns with his Wild West adventure and Chiyo finds that martial arts are much easier than maths! Also this month, we celebrate Children’s Day with inspirational stories and accounts about ordinary people who have managed to achieve greatness despite their circumstances. And last but not the least, we have a Tinkle Digest exclusive ‘Festive Fiasco Contest’, where readers must do some detective work to win amazing prizes! It’s going to be a great festive season. I can feel it in my bones! Can you?
