Surface fishing tactics produced this new personal best of 43¼lb (right) for Jordan Lattimer. The big common was landed on a swelteringly hot day in the midst of a 48-hour session on a local venue.

Well what a result! The recent water temperatures – due to the hot weather – has remained between 18 C and 22 C for over 10 days now and the fish on all the outsites have spawned out which is very rare by the end of May as spawning very often runs into July. It also means that the little carp will
have hatched and will have an excellent start to life. It’s always a painful time at spawning as you are bound to lose a few fish but the losses are running at 1% this year which I can more than live with. To date I have only lost a 24lb fully scaled and a 20lb common among the big fish I put back to grow on, with most of the losses being C4’s around 12lb.

Group bookings on Cambridgeshire’s Holme Fenn Fishery are incredibly popular, and it is no wonder, considering the huge stock of big fish the lake contains. Very recently, a full lake booking turned
out very well for the group, with the lake’s largest resident Captain Jack making an appearance along with a few other enormous fish.

A 24-hour trip to Strawberry Fields in Kent saw Rick Shaw of West ussex bank this 41¾lb  ghosty (right). He went on o land three fish in the session, all falling for Nashbait Scopex Squid pop-ups. Winning rigs
were tied from size 10.

First time on Hightown Junior angler Charlie Dawkins fished Ringwood and District’s Hightown Lake for the first time and had a great result landing  ive fish to plumberry flavoured corn on a Ronnierig over a bed of maize with the best fish 31lb.

Fishing in the Midlands provided Ian Welsh with the opportunity of landing this 40lb mirror (left). The 49-year-old snared the brute during his first visit to his new syndicate along with a second fish that spun the needle around to 24lb. Ian fished with Key Bait Solutions All Season Mix and offered hookbaits on Helicopter set-ups and rigs tied with Fox hooklink material and size 6 RidgeMonkey Chod hooks.

Bait -Tech cat ch of th e week This week goes to Gordon Loveday who took three thirties during a 24-hour session on Leverets syndicate. Loveday took Houdini at 36lb 2oz, The Jester at 30lb 11oz and another
mirror of 31lb 6oz. A great catch Gordon and you win 5kg of Bait-Tech’s new Triple-N boilies which come in 15mm and 18mm. Tony Plummer takes second place with his capture of this 43lb 2oz mirror (left). Aged 55, Tony tricked his catch during a 72-hour visit to the Essex Manor. He fished with Snowman rigs armed with Mainline Cell bottom baits and Pineapple Juice pop-ups, these were fished at just 20 yards range over a scattering of 50 Cell bottom baits. A brace of forties topped a 48-hour session on the Essex Manor for Rob Johnson as well as a 42lb 6oz mirror to Glenn Maulkerson. Strawberry Fields yielded a 54¾lb common to Tim Cosens as well as a 46½lb mirror to Kevin Dent. Chilham Mill’s largest resident Chilly’s Fish was banked at 44¾lb by Craig Pearman. Over the channel, Rob Hales and son Harry, banked a sixty-pounder a piece.

Also fishing on the White Springs complex was Paul White from Cardiff, Wales. The 28-year-old also managed to sink his teeth into the A-Team, when he landed a fish known as Boyo at 36lb (right), along with a 22¼lb mirror. Over the top of a small scattering of 10mm Mainline Cell bottom baits, he offered a matching 15mm pop-up on a Ronnie rig, tied from 20lb Korda N-Trap along with a size 4 Kurv Shank hook. Paul positioned his winning rig off the tip of an island at just nine wraps, dispatched with a 3oz lead and a small PVA bag of 10mm Cell boilies.

Around the venues Farmer John’s Leverets has been quiet in the last couple of weeks with the ice and snow but this week produced six nice fish. Gordon Loveday landed The Poacher at 30lb 9oz during a 24-hour session. Dave Warren took a 28¼lb mirror during a day session, while big fella Ian.

The carpers favourite all time beverage (no not Stella), Yorkshire Tea has introduced a new blend! Biscuit Brew from the famous bagger makes the perfect biscuit dunked tea, without the need for all the mess associated with dunking. We have yet to try them, but these new bags are going to be a massive hit, we are sure!

Unless you were lucky enough to enjoy a perfectly timed holiday to sunnier climbs, you cannot have failed to have been affected by the torrential snow and extreme temperatures caused by the Beast from the East. Transport networks ground to a halt, thousands of schools were shut, but it seemed the angling industry had its fair share of people willing to battle the harsh conditions.

The big news this week comes from none other than Mr Carpy himself, Mark Pitchers. The popular YouTube star and Fox consultant has decided to open up his own Wainstones syndicate water to exclusive weekly bookings. Currently the big fish venue is closed for maintenance work and won’t open again until it goes open access in 2020.

February is always a quiet month for carp anglers. The weather is often freezing cold and very few carp grace the bank. As such, many anglers use the time to look for venues for the season ahead, and this week we heard of three top waters where you’ll find some exceptional fishing on offer.

This year, Carpin’ On is in its 17th year and it’s gained a great reputation along the way. It’s the show that has always been known as the one organised for carp anglers, by carp anglers! Carpin’ On is a great day out and is your chance to rub shoulders with your favourite angling personalities.

Light at the end of the tunnel Fishing on an unnamed southern clay pit David Price from Bournemouth was able to tame this 30¾lb mirror (left). During his 10-hour day session sticking to his preferred rigs and baits saw the HGV driver finally put an end to six bleak months of fishing. He loaded a CC Moore Acid Pear pop-up onto a pre-tied Korda Chod rig that featured a size 6 Choddy hook. David positioned his favoured set-up at 30 yards range to nearby a shelf.

Five years ago this week - issue 956 RH Fisheries produced its first ever sixty in the form of Jonah at 60¼lb landed by Stephen Johnson. David Boult appearedwith his capture of Cluster from Runcton at 39lb 5oz and Jess Bevans chipped in with a 39½lb mirror from Furnace Lakes. We also reported the unfortunate passing of legendary specimen angler Terry Lampard.

James Hutton kick started the New Year with a bang when he landed this 42lb 10oz mirror (right) known as Fingers on New Year’s Day, during a session on New Forest Water Park. With a big south westerly wind forecast and a full moon almost upon us, James put his faith in a silty area just left of a big weed bed.

The country may have ground to a halt due to the adverse weather, but it didn’t stop the anglers!, Over on the Chilham Mill syndicate in Kent, this 36lb 10oz mirror (left) fell to Mark Port and secures him third place. Mark fished over a spread of Mainline Link free offerings at 60 yards range to a small gravel patch amongst an area of silt. He fished a pop-up on a Hinged-stiff rig featuring a size 6 hook attached to 15lb RidgeMonkey brown mono.

That ain’t no bream! A two-night session on a Suffolk syndicate resulted in Lee Wheeler landing this 37lb mirror (left) known as Y Scale. Lee targeted a small silty spot just off a gravel area where he offered Sticky Manilla White One’s on Hinged-stiff rigs followed by a spread of 100 matching free offerings covered in Cloudy Manilla Liquid. He told Carp-Talk: “At 5.45am I received a bite on the right-hand rod and at first I wasn’t sure whether it was a bream or a carp, but after the tip bent over and the fish began stripping line off the spool I knew it was no bream. After a short but savage battle I slipped the fish into the net and immediately knew it was Y Scale, a fish that was up there on my most wanted list.”

After a three-month break from fishing 34-year-old Tom Doherty from Essex returned to the banks this week where he took to the Essex Manor and managed to land one of the lake’s most sought after residents, Gracies at a top weight of 50lb 2oz (below). Tom offered a Mainline Toasted Almond pop-up on a Hinged-stiff rig constructed with items of PB Products terminal tackle and fished over a mixture of MK1 and Fyber boilies along with Hooked On Baits particles.
