Staveley and Bruno felt the fear

The Chronicle

May 10, 2025

NEWCASTLE United skipper Bruno Guimaraes admits that Amanda Staveley was "scared" of being relegated when he first signed for the Magpies from Lyon in 2022.

Back then, Newcastle were deep in the mire in the Premier League and there was a January spending spree including the £40million acquisition of Bruno, Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Matt Targett. Bruno has since progressed to become a winning captain but said that others warned him he could be in for trouble when swapping a European challenge at Lyon for a relegation scrap on Tyneside.
