PERMISSION GIVEN FOR DEMOLITION BUT WORK YET TO START

- By LOUIS CORBETT & SOPHIE BUSCIMESE

Brass Monkey starts to collapse before facelift

A POPULAR city bar has started to collapse before its planned demolition and renovation.

An interior wall of Brass Monkey has collapsed inwards - which has been the main fear of the owners since they found out about the building’s severe structural problems.

The cocktail bar, on High Pavement, was due to celebrate its 25th anniversary last year but was forced to close in November 2023 after staff noticed cracks in the walls.

While Nottingham City Council approved the demolition of the building in November, the work has not yet started.

The council also approved plans to rebuild the bar and convert a top-floor flat into a large space for the business to operate from.
