Well rookie admits he took ribbing from national team pals over vision

The 'few months' shout was a bit rogue but I DO want to be the best player in Scotland...I know I've a long way to go but hopefully I get there

HE'S the prodigy who boasts a dizzying array of skills which have made him the hottest commodity in Scottish football... and now you can add self-deprecation to the list.

Lennon Miller is already a master of defying convention by captaining Motherwell at the age of 18 and his deft touch in a tight situation extends beyond the pitch.

The midfielder - in the running for PFA Scotland's Young Player of the Year alongside Arne Engels, Hamza Igamane and James Wilson - expertly reflected on the fallout from his vow to potentially become Scotland's star turn "in a couple of months" with the nous of a grizzled veteran.

He understands the vast majority of this football-mad nation took no issue with one of our finest talents talking himself up and he was grateful that was an opinion shared by Scotland boss Steve Clarke.

Miller said: "Listen, it's obviously not come across like I have meant to say it. I believe in my ability, I want to be the best young player, I want to be the best player in Scotland.

"But the 'few months' shout was a bit rogue, to say the least. To have the manager's backing was nice but I tried to show during the week that I could back those comments up.

"You see [teammates] every day in the camp, you can take bits from them. I watched Scott McTominay - Napoli are going to probably win the league.
