उन दिनों मैं पहले दर्जे में था। स्कूल से लौटकर अक्सर अपने चाचा के घर जाया करता था। उनका घर हमारे मुहल्ले ही में था। वे अकेले रहते थे। घर का सारा काम खुद करते थे। उनकी मेज़ किताबों और कागज़ों से इतनी लदी रहती थी कि देखकर लगता था, मानो अभी ढह जाएगी! लेकिन ऐसा हुआ कभी नहीं क्योंकि मेज़ के पाए किसी हाथी के बच्चे की टाँगों जितने मोटे और मज़बूत थे।
