HERO-ERA's 90th-anniversary RAC Rally of the Tests from 3-6 November lived up to its tough reputation.

Experience counts in Swedish battle royal

This year the route took crews from Blackpool to Torquay, and out in front it was a tale of two Volvos: 2021 winners Paul Dyas and Martyn Taylor in an Amazon, and Dan Willan (below right) and Niall Frost in the PV544 belonging to Frost's father.

Willan/Frost were always the ones to beat and, although Dyas/ Taylor edged ahead a few times, the PV544 crew had enough in hand to get back ahead, winning by just over 2 mins. "We were pushing really hard, but if Dan and Niall could still pull out that little bit extra when we were on the limit, hats off to them for a brilliant performance," said Dyas.

"We've been trading times with Paul and Martyn and never had any breathing space," added Willan. "The car has been fantastic - we had a little scare with a sheared shocker mount on the axle, but the late-night welder sorted that. This is a happy, happy day."
