So we don’t want kids. So what? Cosmo’s Mel Evans discovers millennials are perfectly happy being "Generation Babyless"

The Generation Of Selfish,Childless Jerks

FIRST COMES LOVE, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage *record rip* yeah, no, not happening. While Gen Y are still keen on shacking up and settling down, kids are no longer a given in that rest-of-life equation. They are merely an optional extra, like heated seats or a spoiler.

Is Gen Y “selfish” for not necessarily wanting to add to the population? Absolutely not. But some don’t see it that way. Those opting out of the baby race have long been branded self-centred, egotistical and greedy by conservative social commentators, the media and a whole ton of guys. Even the Pope has called code red on those who use their vaginas exclusively for sex and periods and not pushing a watermelon sized human being out after nine months of swelling.

“A society with a greedy generation, that doesn’t want to surround itself with children, that considers them above all worrisome, a weight, a risk, is a depressed society,” said Pope Francis in St Peter’s Square last year. “The choice to not have children is selfish. Life rejuvenates and acquires energy when it multiplies.” Wise words from a guy who’s also childless.

Back in 2011, ol’ mate Mark Latham said about then-PM Julia Gillard – who is childfree – that “having children is the great loving experience of any lifetime. And, by definition, you haven’t got as much love in your life if you make that particular choice.” Which, really, isn’t a very loving thing to say at all
