One of my recent fascinations revolves around time, and since we are putting out the Men’s Folio June/July ’26 issue that is quite literally named after the summer season, it feels like some of my late-night binges paid off. The mysteries and gravitas behind one of the universe’s foundational dimensions continue to baffle us to this day. To start you off, here is one question to ponder: “Does time have a beginning and an end?” The definition of time varies across fields of study, ranging from theology to physics to quantum mechanics and beyond.
Some people view time as a commodity: “Doing this might save or cost me time.” Others see it as a healer, others a great equaliser. Regardless of our views, we measure our lives through it as reminders, whether quiet or loud, that time moves without permission. Despite how tightly we try to grasp it, time slips through our fingers the moment we acknowledge its existence.
Earth’s seasons are not equally divided. Though summer is scientifically the longest season in the Northern Hemisphere (shortest in the Southern Hemisphere), it feels so fleeting. Long evenings and spontaneous escapes somehow feel brighter in the sun. As they say, “time flies when you’re having the times of your life.”
The Men’s Folio June/July ’26 issue embraces this transience through moments and objects that accompany us through time. Garments soften and loosen with the season’s pace, while watches are the physical embodiment of the great paradox: precise instruments designed to measure something humanity still struggles to fully understand. Perhaps the beauty of time lies not in understanding it completely, but in how we choose to spend it: with people we cherish and in passions we pursue. And maybe, just maybe, that is what summer has always represented — presence, rather than permanence.
