In this issue

In September this year there are two great events to look forward to - the Vatican announced that the Lay Dominican, Blessed Pier Giorgio, featured on our cover and Blessed Carlo Acutis, the first Millennial Saint, would be canonized on the seventh of September. In two articles we look at the inspiring lives of these two young men. In ‘Treasure Ireland’ Fr Conor McDonough writes about Myles Keogh of Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow who fought to defend the Papal States and whose horse Comanche was the sole survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn. Ray Hughes is on home ground when writing about the lesser-known pilgrimage site of Our Lady of Clonfert Church in Co Galway. The little statue in Clonfert survived Penal Times although she lost an arm. Thomas More, the former friend of Henry VIII who refused to support the King in his break from Rome, is our married saint. The convert to Catholicism is the science opera fiction writer, John C Wright who was once a vituperative atheist. Our New Dominican Storybook would make a lovely gift and is informative and fun and it is a wonderful way to pass on your faith. Be sure and fill in in the free ticket in the centre pages of the magazine which will give you a chance to be a prize winner in one of our quarterly prize draws. Check out the different ways you can enter and save on postage. These draws are a vital part of our fundraising, and we are profoundly grateful for your support.
