Rick and I were more than friends—we were family. We had been friends since high school, and I was the healthcare power of attorney for him. My parents loved him like a son. Because he lived in Denver and I lived in New Hampshire, we didn't get to see each other often, but every time we spoke, it felt like we felt like we had just talked the day before.
