Trying to eat well? Despite what we're led to believe, you don't actually need to be filling your basket with fresh fruit and vegetables to get those all-important nutrients. Frozen food is often thought of as a last resort or it's forgotten about altogether, but it can be a sustainable way to get your five-a-day.
'Fresh isn't always best,' says performance and clinical dietician Renée McDonald. Some products are actually more nutritious - and also cheaper - when frozen, including berries, broccoli and beans. 'Fresh foods destined for the freezer are harvested when they're at their ripest and often nutritionally at their best,' adds Dr Tanja Harrison, a lecturer in public health nutrition at the University of Chester.
